Rachel performs on Show 464.
Rachel Won (violin), 17, is a violinist who loves exploring new limits and experimenting in both her musical and personal life. Rachel’s musical journey is rich with diverse performance experiences such as soloing with the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra, and the Porta Caeli Chamber orchestra. She performed in venues such as Zipper Hall, in the McAllister Honors Recital twice, both solo and in chamber music, selected through a rigorous audition process.
Rachel also loves chamber music and is currently the first violinist of the SEAL quartet at the Colburn’s Ed and Mari Edelman Honors Program, coached by Moni Simeonov. Beyond the concert hall, Rachel is committed to enriching her community through musical outreach programs at children’s libraries and senior centers, as well as playing in gigs and teaching young, aspiring students. She has been concertmaster of various orchestras and will be participating in the EAPO as concertmaster in April. Rachel has participated in and received top honors at various competitions, including first prizes in the VOCE competition, SFV concerto competition, Concordia Music Competition, American String Teachers Association, OCSA symphony orchestra concerto competition, and the Charleston International Music Competition, where she received first prize and the Most Exceptional Performer award. She’ll also be participating in the Music Center’s Spotlight competition as a semifinalist this year.
She has attended and performed in summer programs including Sounding Point Academy, Center Stage Strings, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Idyllwild Arts, the Montecito International Music Festival, and Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. She is currently a Junior who attends Orange County School of the Arts and is a Herbert Zipper Scholar at the Colburn CSPA program, where she studies with Sam Fischer.
Rachel has always enjoyed performing on stage, sharing her music. In addition to her violin performances, Rachel loves reading, exercising, and being outside with nature. She also loves spending time with her two cats, Shosty and Mendy. Her love for exploration extends beyond the realms of music, finding beauty and thrill in artistic expression.
