15-year-old Vibha Janakiraman was first introduced to music by her grandfather, a prominent musicologist and performer of Indian classical music.
For today’s Daily Joy, we’re sharing her powerful performance of Reena Esmail’s “Darshan,” a work that is inspired by both Indian and Western classical music.
West Chester, Pennsylvania Vibha performed on Show 393 from Boston, Massachusetts.
Vibha Janakiraman (violin), 15, is from West Chester, Pennsylvania and is in the tenth grade at the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School University Scholars Program. She studies violin with Catherine Cho and Francesca dePasquale through The Julliard School pre-college division. Vibha played violin with the Gray Charitable Trust Advanced Scholarship Piano Trio at the Settlement School and has performed as a soloist with several orchestras in the Philadelphia region. She has a deep connection to both Western and South Indian classical music and also enjoys studying math and Sanskrit.
