Alex and Nathan Robertson (duo), are 17-year-old twins from from New York City. Their interests in music began from a very early age and they grew side by side, often playing with each other. They continue to work together to this very day, and they don’t have any plans of stopping soon.
Nathan is a violinist and bassoonist. He studies violin with Nurit Pacht in the Young Artists Program at Kaufman’s Lucy Moses School, and studies bassoon with Marc Goldberg at Juilliard Pre-College. Nathan has performed in Merkin Hall, Morse Hall, Harris Concert Hall, and others as a violinist, as well as in Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall, Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater, Morse Hall, and Paul Hall as a bassoon student at Juilliard’s Pre-College Division. Over the past few summers, Nathan has studied and performed violin at the Aspen Music School, KMC’s SummerFest, and the Kinhaven Music School, and has served as a conducting fellow at the National Children’s Chorus Opera Camp. Nathan has played extensively in chamber music settings on both violin and bassoon, especially in string quartets where he has performed in three out of the four string quartet roles and won multiple awards with the Tetrad Quartet, whom he played with for three years.
Alex is a composer and conductor. Currently, he studies composition under the guidance of Manuel Sosa at the Juilliard School of Music Pre-College. Alex’s body of work includes numerous compositions for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. His compositions have been performed by such ensembles as the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, the BUTI Young Artists Orchestra, and the New York Youth Symphony, among others. Some recent awards he has received include being a 2024 National YoungArts Winner in Classical Music Composition, and a winner of the 2024 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award. He has recently been commissioned to write works for the Pacific Symphony and the Kennedy Center, among others. Alex has also worked extensively as a conductor. Among other engagements, he is the music director of the Antiphon Chamber Orchestra, which he founded.
