Pianist, producer, and composer Rhyuhn (ri-un) from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an artist devoted to pushing boundaries and bridging worlds. Hailed by NPR as “both an extraordinary pianist and a composer,” Green began his lifelong devotion to music at the age of two.
His music has been praised by NPR for its “wealth of hummable tunes” and by CBS for “wowing audiences” – has been featured by NPR’s Tiny Desk, the Philadelphia Orchestra, WRTI, the Juilliard School, Lincoln Center, and the Curtis Institute of Music.
With composer, producer, and pianist credits in every style of music from pop, to jazz, to classical, to R&B and alternative, Rhyuhn is a lover of all types of music. At just nine, Rhyuhn performed in the rock style as an opener for Korn, Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Bring Me the Horizon, and more at the Rock Allegiance 2015. Around the same time, he began private piano studies at the Curtis Institute of Music under GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist and From the Top alum Michelle Cann. He went on to make his Carnegie Hall debut at age 12 as a winner of the Crescendo International Competition.
Rhyuhn later joined Philadelphia’s Marian Anderson Young Artist Program and studied composition with Harvard Rieman and Bakatel Fellow William “Bill” Dougherty, while also working in the jazz tradition with Ruth Naomi Floyd and Jamaaladeen Tacuma. His works have since been performed by the Philadelphia Ballet, Manhattan Brass Quintet, Musicians of the Juilliard School and Curtis Institute, and the Abington Symphony, among others. Currently, he is under David Ludwig and Valerie Coleman at the Juilliard School, where he is a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship and frequent collaborator with the Juilliard Jazz department. Through this connection, he formed the “Rhyuhn Green Trio” to perform at Philadelphia’s Notsolatin (“The Tiny Desk of South Philly”). He also collaborates with artists in the Pop, R&B, and Motown styles. He serves as one of the youngest members of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYS®.
Rhyuhn has held numerous fellowships and residencies with NPR’s From the Top, Play On Philly!, The Juilliard School, the Philadelphia Ballet, and more. He holds awards from Crescendo International Competition, the Jack Kent CookeFoundation, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Play On Philly!, the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Marian Anderson Young Artist Program, the Juilliard School, and more.

Bio from show 451:
Rhyuhn performs on Show 451.
Rhyuhn Green (composer/piano), 17, is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born with a highly advanced musical intuition, Green began his musical studies at the age of 2. Around age 9, he began to study under the guidance of esteemed instructors from prestigious institutions. With Columbia, The Curtis Institute, and Juilliard School professors, Rhyuhn shaped his artistry and technique and went on to make his solo Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 12. Classically trained in piano performance, and with a deep appreciation for various musical genres, he ventured into the realm of jazz. With 50+ solo, chamber, orchestral, and film scores, his music transcends boundaries, breathing new life into the classical, jazz, and Latin genres alike. As a conductor, Rhyuhn has conducted his own critically acclaimed compositions with multiple ensembles. His passion for various genres found expression in his ability to infuse the Latin style with jazz and classical music, and his compositions reflect his exploration of innovation.
Rhyuhn is currently a senior at The Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. He was selected as a Marian Anderson Young Artist through the Play On Philly program, and is a student of the esteemed Michelle Cann on piano, and William Dougherty on composition.
Receiving the Award will support Rhyuhn’s music education by covering his college audition recording and travel needs, both for piano and composition. The Award funds will also allow him to take consultation lessons and meet prospective teachers.
