Like many of our young musicians, cellist Ian Maloney finds the greatest joy in making music with good friends.
For today’s Daily Joy, he’s doing just that! Here’s his quartet’s beautiful performance of Ian’s very own composition that he wrote earlier this year.

Hackensack, New Jersey Ian appeared in From the Top’s cover of “Stressed Out” (March 2017), performed in collaboration with PROJECT Trio.
Ian also performed on Show 334 in Boston, MA on March 12, 2017.
Ian Maloney (cello), 12, is from Hackensack, New Jersey and is in the 7th grade at the Elisabeth Morrow School. He has been playing cello since he was three and studies with Madeleine Golz at The Manhattan School of Music. He is a winner of both national and international competitions and has been a featured soloist with numerous orchestras. During the summer Ian has attended Music@Menlo and Greenwood Music Camp. He loves chamber music and plays piano and trumpet. Outside of music, Ian enjoys baseball statistics, reading, and playing tennis.
Music has the unique ability to bring joy to our lives – especially in the hands of young people. Daily Joy is a reminder of music’s power to uplift, inspire, and unite.
Daily Joy is a project of From the Top. It began in the very early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and continues today to offer a much-needed respite from the anxiety and worry that we encounter in the world.
