18-year-old violist Jacob Choi is a soulful musician with big plans for how he can make a difference in the future. He plays a beautiful work by 18th century composer William Flackton with Eunsil Cho piano.

Jacob Choi (viola), 18, hails from Denton, Texas, and is a senior at Liberty High School. He studies viola with Ronald Houston. Some of Jacob’s proudest accomplishments include being the finalist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition, a finalist for Fort Worth Symphony’s Young Artist Competition, first place in the JDR Viola Concerto Competition, an honorable mention in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Competition, and placing second in the Texas Association for Symphony Orchestras (TASO) Juanita Miller Concerto Competition. In addition to his solo pursuits, Jacob plays viola in the JDR String Quartet. The ensemble placed in the finals in the Coltman Chamber Music Competition and were quarterfinalists in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Outside of music, Jacob enjoys playing basketball, watching soccer and football, eating delicious food, speaking Spanish, admiring beautiful interior designs, and chatting with friends.

Daily Joy is a project of From the Top. It began in the very early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and continues today to offer a much-needed respite from the anxiety and worry that we encounter in the world.
