Alexander performs on Show 485.
Alexander Fiszer (cello), 18, is a senior at Liberty University On-Line High School and has played the cello for twelve years. He is the principal cellist for three orchestras in New Jersey, and is a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Alexander has been privileged to train under accomplished cellists like Evangeline Benedetti, David Szepessy, Uri Vardi, Minna Rose Chung, Susan Moses Bloom, and his current teacher, Mark Curchill at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Program.
In the summers, Alexander keeps himself musically busy with music festivals and tours. His recent orchestral performances around the world include tours in Greece and South Africa, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Mexico and the Czech Republic with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and a Switzerland and UK tour with the Stretto Youth Chamber Ensemble. Some of the festivals that he has participated in are the Philadelphia International Festival’s “Music in the Manor” solo intensive program in Miami where he participated in a masterclass and performed in a final recital. Also, in the summer of 2025, Alexander attended the Sphinx Performance Academy at Juilliard and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Alexander also participated in a week-long intensive on the Feldenkrais application on cello performance as well as a weekend focusing on the Baroque cellist, Dall’ Abacco. Alexander also enjoyed being a participant in the first ever ToneBase Cello Festival in Boston (Fall, 2024).
In 2023, Alexander won second place at Madrid’s Nebrija University and placed second place in the Radda International Competition. Alexander also won first place in the International Academy of Music Competition in Italy in 2024, and in 2025, placed second place in the Opus Competition. Alexander won the concerto competition for the Youth Orchestra of Central New Jersey and is a finalist for the Marine Band Concerto Competition as well as the Summit Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. Alexander has organized and performed in recitals for the past 3 years as a way to fundraise for various causes such as California Wildfire Direct Giving Fund, funds for a new performing arts center and a scholarship fund for music summer camps.
When he is not playing his cello, Alexander enjoys chi gong, hiking, learning about the Feldenkrais Method, learning about the raw food vegan diet (which Alex follows), as well as designing and building with Legos. For Alexander, music is a cherished gift, and he is grateful for his parents, grandparents, his family, and all of his teachers present and past who share his musical journey.
